Ambassador Ragne Birte Lund was designated as the Ambassador to Bangladesh for the Kingdom of Norway on 18th October 2010.
Ambassador Lund has a Cand Mag. in History, Education and Sociology from the University of Oslo (1974) and Cand Philol. Degree in History from the University of Trondheim (1976). She started work in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1977 and held several positions before being appointed the Norwegian Ambassador to South Korea in 1995.
Prior to her appointment, she served as Attaché and 2nd Secretary Embassy of Norway in Berne, 2nd and 1st Secretary at Permanent Mission of Norway to the UN, First Executive Officer in the UN Bureau and the Division for Human Rights and Humanitarian Assistance at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1985), Head of Division (human rights, humanitarian and social affairs) Political Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1989), and Counsellor of Permanent Mission of Norway to the UN and Other International Organisations (Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs) in Geneva (1990).
In 1997, she was appointed as the Special Adviser on Humanitarian and Refugee Affairs Global Department and Department for Human Rights, Democracy and Humanitarian Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Further, in 2000, she served as the Norwegian Ambassador to Thailand. In addition, Ambassador Lund served as the Ambassador for Global Initiatives on Child Rights Department for UN, Peace and Humanitarian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2005. She also served as the Ambassador for Ambassador for Human Rights Dialogues Department for UN, Peace and Humanitarian Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs 2009.
On 11th October 2013, the Nordic Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Bangladesh (NCCI) awarded the Honorary Membership to Ambassador Ragne Birte Lund in recognition of her significant contribution to trade and business development in Bangladesh. Ambassador Lund was born on 20th November 1949 and is married to eminent physicist Dr. Anup Rej.
